The very definition of eternal life is to know God. Eternal life is a perpetual unfolding of revelation in the knowledge of the beauty of God. The primary reason that Jesus came to us was to make known the Father; to make a way for fallen humanity to have eternal life. We have been created as eternal beings; having a beginning with no end, for we were made in the image of God. After this life on earth we will either continue on in eternal life or eternal damnation. Jesus is described to be the exact representation of the Father; the image of the invisible God, for He Himself is God. Everything about Him screams the Father; every movement and word spoken by Him reveals God. All the law and the Prophets are embodied in Jesus. He is not just a story or words on a page to be observed and studied. He is life itself beckoning to humanity, throughout the generations, to come into fellowship with Him. Jesus said that it was better for Him to go away for a time because He would go to the Father and send His Spirit. We were born of the flesh that has been cursed with sin and death until the appointed day of full restoration of the body. We must be born of the spirit to enter the kingdom of eternal life. The spirit of God reveals God to man from deep within the hearts of men.
And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. (John 17:3)
Through this verse I feel the Lord reaching to me. As my mind is filled with many things, here in the silence the words of Jesus calls out out to my heart. Can you hear Him calling out to you? No matter who you are or your current circumstance, He is saying your name right now. To the rich and to the poor, to the young and to the old; the Lord extends His invitation through the person of Jesus to know Him. He will break through the boredom, He will deliver you from the cares of this life. His desire is for you to be with Him where He is; that you would be consumed by His fiery love, caught up in the divine pleasures of Jesus. It is so simple, you are His beloved. It is not too mysterious or too far away. He is closer than a brother or your best of friends. His Spirit that searches the heart and mind of God, for He is God, dwells within you. Just quiet down your heart and fix your thoughts upon Him. You will hear His voice for He desires you to hear. in the stillness His spirit will direct your mind through meditations on His word. In Jesus alone you will find life. Let Him help you remove all else from the altar of your heart.
